1. Exfoliate and shave at least 12 hours before. Do NOT wear deodorant, fragrance, body cream, face cream, or makeup for your spray tan session.

2. SBS arrives at your location, sets up, and prepares for your spray tan. Set up takes about 3-5 minutes.

3. We will discuss any skin concerns (skin conditions, burns, etc.,) that could possibly affect the outcome of your tan.

4. You will be provided "sticky feet" - feet stickers that you'll wear to prevent solution from getting on the bottom of your feet (not the best look!).

5. Next, you will step into the spray tent. The tent is enclosed on three sides and is about 8 feet tall!

6. We will apply the pH balance spray (if applicable to your service) and provide barrier cream for you to apply to your hands, feet, ankles, knees, and elbows.

7. You will stand in about 4-6 different positions for your spray tan; we will guide and direct you on each position!

8. Once the spray session is complete, you will step out of the tent carefully. We will remove your "sticky feet" for you and then you can get dressed.

9. For clothing post-spray, we recommend loose, dark-colored clothing, as the DHA in the solution can stain lighter colored clothing.

10. Rinse off the spray solution - we will discuss the best time for you to rinse per the formula we use.

Great question! We recommend exfoliating your skin and shaving any unwanted hair at least 12-16 hours before your appointment. On the day of your appointment, we ask that you forgo any body lotions/creams and deodorant or fragrance. These products can inhibit the DHA and cause your spray tan to NOT develop correctly. Also, please remove all makeup from the face prior to your spray tan session!

The active ingredient in sunless tanners is DHA (dihydroxy acetone). DHA is approved by the food and drug administration for use in sunless tanning products. DHA is naturally derived from sugar. It synthesizes with the skin’s proteins and amino acids in the outermost layer (epidermis) of the skin, working with your own natural pigments to produce a safe, natural looking tan.

DHA reacts with the dead skin cells, therefore, as those skin cells slough off, so does your tan. Each person has a unique skin cell cycle, affected by numerous factors including, but not limited to, hormones, genetics, age, medications, the environment and products used topically on the skin.

DHA was discovered 70 years ago. Since this time, there have been numerous studies to show that DHA applied topically to the skin has no reactions or adverse affects.

During the initial client consultation, you’ll decide on a solution that works best with your skin tone. The amount of DHA in the solution will determine the level of darkness of their tan. Some skin tones will require more DHA and others will require less to achieve the same effect. As a certified airbrush artist you’ll know what works best for your clients.

For rapid tans, it lasts roughly about 7 days. For all other tans, they last about 12-14 days.

At this time, we do not spray tan men. We only do spray tan services for women, 18+.

While our solutions are safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding, we advise that you consult with your physician to discuss prior to booking an appointment.

You can pay online or in-person. We currently accept all major credit cards, Venmo, NFCU Transfer pay, and cash.

We require at least 24 hour notice for cancelations. We understand that emergencies happen, but please try to give us as much notice as possible. Since Sunless By Syd is only open on the weekends, we may not be able to guarantee to get you back on the schedule within short notice.

No, spray tans have come a long way in the past few years, and the solutions we use in particular are designed to give you a natural looking bronze tan without unflattering shades of orange. The only way you could end up with an unnatural shade is if I, as an airbrush artist, mix a color that’s way too dark for your natural pigments and skin color.

For women, we usually recommend a bikini or bra and underwear. You can go topless if you wish to not have tan lines, but that is totally up to your comfort level. Bottoms are, however, required.

We recommend getting your spray tan done AT LEAST two days before the event.

While tipping is not expected or required, it is highly appreciated. We greatly appreciate any and all tips, no matter how big or small! It's a generous gesture that goes a long way when it comes to a small business.
